Week 6/Week 7

Updated: Oct 25, 2019

Hey folks,

Last week was pretty chill after Thanksgiving at our homestays. We had Rick and Jacquie Block come to Redberry Bible Camp where we have been staying to speak to us about doing justly and retouched on the creation story in Genesis. After those three days, we had a fun day of participating in various activities such as climbing the rock wall, being dropped on a giant swing, and doing a big game in the field where only a few injuries occurred. On Sunday we went into Langham for a church service and afterwards drove to one of our fellow student’s house for a big potluck lunch. Big thanks to you Rachel and your awesome family for opening up your home to us and feeding our hungry bellies! The weather has been pretty decent since being in Saskatchewan and the view all the way around the camp is so breathtaking; all the rolling hills of farmers fields, horses munching in their pasture, and the beautiful Redberry Lake.

This week we’ve been attending sessions at Mennonite Central Commity (MCC) which is an organization that seeks to extend God’s love through relief, development, and peace building. Each day held new content and learning experiences, but what stood out to me the most was hearing from the men who are part of Str8 Up. This is a group of men who in no better way to describe it; have been through hell and back. They are a group that have been in prison, but get together to learn how to lead a more positive life. They shared their stories and how they conquered the darkness in their life. This was inspiring to me because I’ve been having a rough few weeks and sometimes it’s really hard to escape the dark parts of life. This brought to mind Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me”. Not every week in going to be a sunshine and rainbows kind of week, but I’m hoping the next week gives me some rest and peace of mind.

Yesterday we made the long journey to Alberta Pioneer Camp in Rocky Mountain House, where we will be spending the next week. Please pray for our group that this week is a week of learning and growing, that we can use the trials in life to further develop our faith.

Thanks again for reading,

Kiera & Noah
